Tour Review: Ha'aretz
From Ha'aretz, Friday, May 28, 1999, by Gidi Avivi (translated): Refreshing and Energetic In one way at
least the Boys' Choir of Harlem is a typical New York group. The Members
know there is only one way to get to Carnegie Hall: to practice, to
practice, to practice. .....[T]he Boys' Choir
of Harlem is an impressive educational musical project...these young boys
of New York present in their performance a musical journey at chosen
stations of black music... .....apart from the educational side, it is very easy to enjoy the musical side of the Boys' Choir of Harlem. They perform songs, or musical excerpts in different styles, from gospel to swing, from ragtime to soul music that sound natural and intriguing, and while it is clear that we are not speaking of adult professionals, it is easy to be infected with the enthusiasms and curiosity with which they execute the classics of past generations...we recommend the Boys' Choir of Harlem... |
