Tour Review: From The Jerusalem Post, Monday, May 17, 1999, by Barry Davis: Bringing Peace the Harlem Way ...The choir's musical program
in Israel is likely to cater to almost all musical tastes, ranging from
spirituals and gospel The Harlem Boys are no strangers to the road, putting on an average 100 shows a year in the US and abroad. They have shared top billing with the likes of opera singers Luciano Pavarotti and Jessye Norman, pop icons Stevie Wonder and Paul McCartney, and the New York Philharmonic and the Boston Symphony Orchestra. They have performed at such venerable venues as London's Royal Albert Hall and the Concertgebouw Hall in Amsterdam.
...[The choir] has been described as "one of the definitive cultural
landmarks in a city top-loaded with [boys' choirs]" ...The sort of wholesome jibes which exude from Turnbull and the Boys' Choir of Harlem mean that they often put on shows even -- to adapt an infamous John Lennon remark,...if the members of the audience haven't got enough jewelry to rattle. |
